Hoppy pilsner

Try 60-minute additions. That should mute some of the differences.

well I have plenty of ale yeast so I could just sub the the Pilsner for the pale malt but I have pale ale malt so I can make plenty of my regular pale ales. But what I was trying to ask is has anyone tasted a European style lager using American hops? I know we can but is it worth it. I'm sure I can get a drinkable beer but worried it would end up not quite a pale ale and not quite a pilsner. Dumb idea I guess
Not dumb at all...Nice clean beer with just the right bitter and lots of C-hop flavor. Totally crushable. :) There are plenty of examples of "hoppy lagers" these days. The so-called Italian Lager uses mostly bold European hops with more fruit character but could easily be done with basic C-hops. I'd give it plenty of Centennial in the last part of the boil and dry hop generously with Cascade.
I'd just run it a little warmer than you would a lager so you'd pick up a little ester expression. Any way you do it, it would work nicely.
