Grodziskie/Grätzer

I have a friend and fellow brewer Mateusz Adamczyk in Gdansk, Poland. Recently he sent me a bottle of Grodziskie (Grätzer in Germany). It is the oddest beer I've ever tasted. It almost tastes like ham or bacon! The smoke scent is subdued but comes through in the beer. It's slightly tart, very lightly carbonated, low alcohol. And as I said, odd. My guess is either you'll love it or hate it. Meanwhile, it's my brew after next (next up is Bavarian Dunkelweizen, while I order the smoked wheat malt and wait for the Lubelski hops).
