Finally tapped the Irish Red last night...

Brewed it for St Pat's and never got around to tapping the keg(no open taps). Took the kids out for pizza at a (semi)local brewery last night, well, they had an Irish Red with the same name...when I got home, I had to try mine of course. Think I've got a winner with this one,

Now for a new name, can't have the same name as the brewery two towns over...I'm thinking "Kilkenny Red"
 
MM dead interested in this Red. I have an Irish Red on the stalks at the moment - 2nd in line for next week my Ale-Ian Red Eye - so I will take a look (if it is shared) and see where I might go wrong (I'm always confident). I plan to use the slurry from my Scottish 80/- just brewed rather than a specific Irish Brew yeast. Going to look now...

Kept it pretty simple, very easy drinking beer.

Nice! I need to get some more beers in line. I have a commercial ipa keg and sours on tap and otherwise I’m dry right now.

If it gets you talking jibberish nonsense after a session it's deffinetly Irish as Feck:p!

Or if it makes you feel like you could take on the WORLD it's Kilkenny Red:D!
 
In sense of tradition the IPA keg kicked shortly after I posted that comment. So it's sour or nothing until the Q2 brew is done unless I want to go buy more.
 
I brewed a beer last weekend to use up some ingredients and get an easy beer going. It was predicted to have a perfect Irish Red color but has turned out a little darker than that. And thanks to using up a small amount of Midnight Wheat in it, it's just slightly more roasty flavor than I'd prefer. It pushes closer to a Nut Brown Ale at this point but if I were entering it into a contest, I'd probably hit 3 or 4 categories of English, Irish and Scottish beers with it.
I haven't brewed an English or Irish beer for a while but this one is making me want to revisit an Irish Red i did a couple of years back that was a beautiful amber color with awesome toffee/butterscotch flavors.
 
My Irish Reds were coming in too dark to see the red plus it is a little sweet. So for my last Irish Red I dropped the roasted malt down to 2 oz (56g) and reduced the lovibond on the crystal malt (30L to 10L). I bottled it yesterday and the sample was not sweet and it was lighter (both good) but, the color was not red in the least. Next time I'll either bump the roasted barley or maybe add in a little caramalt

I've been hitting the latest batch pretty regularly and it's turning into a very nice beer! I don't think it really hits the appearance points for an Irish Red but it's close...Deep copper color edging toward reddish brown - a little dark but with nice clarity and very attractive in the glass. The flavor has really shifted with a few days of lagering to drop the yeast. The S-04 I use is dependable as hell but it throws off a certain "cherry cough drop" flavor to my palate. It's not the worst flavor, especially for a dark beer but it'd be better without it. The good news is that all that slightly harsh fruity ester has faded into the background to be replaced with a nice malty sweetness balanced with good bitterness and just a hint of roast left in the flavor. It finishes just a little dry and is an extremely pleasant pint! :)
It's a keeper but it won't be long in the keeping, I'm afraid! :D :D :D
