Advice on false bottom for mash tun

Hello everyone
i want to put a custom false bottom to my pot, i use a recirculation pump
how thick should the slits be? thee grains i'm buying is crushed at 0,8 mm,
is beter to have slits or holes?

My Anvil has “coins”, which are essentially slits. You can see they are so small it’s impossible to measure how wide they are. It works very well, but this is the first false bottom I’ve used, so I don’t know if there is any advantage of one over the other.

I read different opinions about that, someone has 3mm which is to big but works anyway
Because of recirculation if is to small, will be a problem it will stuck

My Brewzilla has a false bottom with maybe 2mm holes. I don’t use it any more - no advantage and just one more thing to clean.

Larger commercial systems use a triangular wire false bottom. i dont know the opening size but they are strong and effective. the "knockout" one is really neat, cool idea.

No. The Brewzilla has what is called a Malt Pipe, essentially a stainless steel ‘bag’ that sits in the water. Google Brewzilla.

I'm thinking to use Stainless steel sieve, mesh 20 or Les, its 1mm holes
Or i do nothing for now, it's brew day tomorrow don't know Wen will be the next, I don't have time to prepare it for tomorrow so I will just biab.
According to Palmer's book, false bottom system with sparge can give the best efficiency that's why I want to test it

Yes, I batch sparge. Pour some hot water over it to rinse the grain

It does have far higher efficiency, but there is a depth of the bed is very important. The wider and thinner the bed the better.

My bed is super deep and I don't have great efficiency.

I also read that is better to NOT complete empty mash vessel during sparge, the correct method is to drain mash and same time sparging, adjust drain and sparge speed so that the liquid inside is 1-2 cm above grain bed, to not let dry the grains.
but later reading more i confused about that
Is that method good whats your opinion?

i have tried it all, 10/10 i would recommend this brewhouse to people that i DO NOT like.

It is basically a brew in a bag setup that pushes through the "bag" from below. it cant hold enough grain at all and is very inefficient(for commercial gear). I cant hold more then 95#s per tube and even my smallest recipe is 135#s. so i have to mash in twice, mash out twice, grain out twice, and sparge twice. To get over 8% abv i have to use sugar, reduce batch size(not worth it), or mash in/out a third time. I am pushing 2bbls out of a 2HL brewhouse. I greatly dislike the gear that i am forced to use.

yup that is the proper technique. once your figure out the volumes, you shut off your sparge at the right kettle volume to pull almost all of the liquid out of the mashtun and have a full kettle at the same time.
