Are most stouts caffeinated? Google says not all are, but I can’t figure out a way to tell if ones I’m looking at the store are caffeinated or not. I’ve avoided the style until recently, and I can’t find it listed on the bottles, at least not the few I’ve tried.

So “most” stouts are not. Some are. Non are very caffeinated, maybe like a cup of coffee per gallon at most? Pure speculation, but sounds right.

The ones that say "Coffee Stout":)

A local brewery (sadly closed for a few years now) roasted their own coffee for their coffee stout. They cold brewed the beer which apparently gives all of the coffee flavor but none of the caffeine. Not sure if that is a fact, but that is what they did. I really miss that brewery, everything they made knocked your socks off :(

we made a stout at one point that closer to half a cup per pour...30bbl batch and 2 or 3 30 gal trashcans brimmed up with ground local coffee. Such a good beer...stopped making it years ago. We rested the beer on the ground coffee in loose nylon bags for a few days.

actually the opposite. Cold brewed coffee is much stronger caffeine wise. Cold brewing it removes he acidity from it so its far smoother.
