***NOT BASED ON CURRENT RECIPE, OG CALC ISSUE… ABV is lower than target
2/7
2:15 Mash target 152… hit 146-7. Will try modified decoction... Did a manual RIMS/decoction thing… got temp up to 160 in mash by recirculating with 1 gal pitcher. Didn’t hold at higher temp very long, just keep recirculating.
7+ gals in boil
3:50 added HOP 1, so target chiller at 4:35
4:20 HOP 2
4:30 HOP 3, chiller in. [added most of the hops in 1 and 2… not much left for 3. Didn’t measure]
4:32 whirlpool on
4:35 chiller on
? Did I skip hop back? I think yes?
5:30 pitched yeast at 69
OG = 1.034 hydro, 1.029 Tilt…
My mash technique obviously wasn’t efficient... didn’t really sparge... and must not have been in high enough temp zone long enough to fully convert. Was down to 143 before recirculating... and maybe only 40 mins at primary temp.
2/11 ?7am increase to 72
2/13 7am cold crash at 40; FG = 1.009 at 42 (1.005 uncalibrated). 3.3% ABV.
2/14 yeast harvest and closed transfer to keg; yeast is nice and white…
2/19 sample… a bit thin and astringent, but clearing up. Too soon to tell, but I think too much IBU for the ABV. This might be a dump out.
2/26 bitter, probably a dump
2/28 seems less offensive than last time… I think it’s mostly overhopped for the low ABV. Not balanced |
