notes 3/15/2020
was decently bitter, roastey, abv, rye spice. should consider bumping up the dry hop addition. its not too hop flavorful. i think maybe some would like this exact implementation but what i am looking for is a little more hop flavor. it currently smells hoppy but tastes like cascadian bitter porter. which is good. but. still. i want more hopz.

customized again 12/13/2019
first version of customized recipe here : https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/909917

now im thinking i want to simplify the hop profile to only use some combo of cascade, simcoe, and amarillo. cascade is my go to and cheap. i believe amarillo hop is supposed to go nicely with rye. i vaguely have the same memory of simcoe.

settling on cascade for simplicity and just personal preference. read another article about rye ipa suggesting 3# rye so im going with that. adjusting ibus to 60 something, BU/GU 1.02 and adding 80% attenuative 1056 yeast, adjusting base malt to come out to 6.5%abv.

customized 11/15/2019
im removing the 60 min chinook addition. the posted recipe works out to 100IBU in this software but was declared as 62.

im also considering getting rid of the citra, at least partially. i think for a black ipa it might have too much hoppiness (if that is possible). it might be cheaper and just as fulfilling to use cascade centennial and a little chinook for bittering......hops can def be worked around a little. TBD

this recipe was copied directly from instagram homebrew.fanatics account - malt and hop amounts converted from imperial. this recipe is for 6 gallons and 70% efficiency. figured id keep a copy of the base recipe before making mods.
