Good vorlauf of about 15 minutes. Clear wort. Pump would go at first. Needed some hot water sprayed through it. Left about 2-3L in mash tun and collected in 20L pot |

Good volume for boil at the top of the sight glass so 101L. Boil wasnt strong at first - too much wind and propane was getting low. Switched tanks and really got it going. Added first charge of hops after about 7-10 minutes of boil |

Had good whirlpool and trub wasn't a problem during chilling. CIP went well with 20L of caustic solution. Sanitation solution is too small at 2L (20ml Vortex) and could go to 10L (100ml). With event going on in brewery was hard to get back and forth for sanitizer etc. Filling fermentor was good but temp through the thrumometer kept going up and down and had to adjust flow. Pitched full 5L of yeast starter at about 17c |

Temp dropped much too low so added O2 and started to warm with two heaters and sleeping bag around fermentor |

Kegged 5 19 liter kegs at Bad Tattoo. Filled first two a little too full but then started to use a scale to weigh them. Tare at 6kg and filled to 23kg so should be 17L of beer in the last 3 kegs. |

This lemon drop blonde ale is a tribute to a time when English brewers were influenced by the popularity of German lagers and tried their hand at making them. These brewers used English ingredients including adjuncts and ale yeast but they were able to mimic lagers to a certain extent. This blonde ale sticks to the English ingredient focus except for the new age citrusy lemon drop hop. All in all it makes for a refreshing sessionable beer that reminds you of summer! |
