Notes

First run of this beer didn't quite hit all the marks I was going for but was very good regardless. It turned out a bit darker than I had planned, so I would dial back on the De-husked Caraf II from 0.2 lbs (original) to 0.1 or 0.15 lbs. However, this is just a note on appearance, as I don't think the Caraf II was overly dominant in the final flavor. Malt character is nutty/toasty, I didn't get any serious roasty flavors or astringency. I would have wanted just a bit more hop character/bitterness, they are largely overshadowed by the malts. Original recipe aimed for 41.1 IBU's, but I might try to shoot more for the top of the style range at 50 IBUs. Fermented at the top end of the temperature range for the style, but the Imperial Dieter yeast was mostly clean with a very slight ester note. Kegged, carbed, and conditioned for about 1.5 weeks before enjoying.
