water use calculations are as follows: used from previous double batch of something) Strike water: 12 gal cal absorb at 3.3 gallons figuring = 1/2 qt per pound (and figuring rice flakes at half of said absorbtion) sparge with 5 gallons water dead space in keggle: 2 gallons (used 3 in past and had very high volume) Pre boil volume calc as: 11.7 gallons. boil off: 1 galon (using 1 gal per 60 mins) junk/trub: 1/2 gallon. Figuring 10.2 gallons going to fermentors. (end result of that was a little less than intended 10 gallons. maybe 9-9.5 gallons?) This actual brew date: 7/5//2020 - tried to use 12 gallons of strike water with grain bill, too much to handle when adding a little additional water to cool down, this grain and approx 11.5 gallons will bring to top. Can use more water with less grain. had to drain some wort out of the mash tun and add in at sparge. I ended up with approx 10 3/4 - 11 gallons. tweak water use down a SMALL amount for a similar 10 gallon batch in the future. |
