This is a beer that went 'wrong'.
It came to brew day and I trusted the Grainfather for water quantities - the app had a bug at the time so there was too much water, especially in the sparge.
Then I found I didn't have any Cascade hops so I substituted Challenger; yes, I know, they have totally different characteristics!
When it came to the boil, it was boiling vigorously at 99 degrees - I discovered that the temperature probe wasn't fully in. So, what temperature did I mash at? I'm guessing 68, but it could be more.
OG was 1.051 but target was 1.056. Too much water.
FG was 1.020 (I suspect due to mash temperature).
The result?
Just over 4% alcohol with good mouthfeel.
Interestingly hopped - not too bitter but lovely earthy/grassy flavour.
Overall, an interesting beer that I really enjoy. But, it's a wrong'un.
