Collected somewhere between 5.5 - 6 gallons. Probably more than 5.5 gallons, regardless.
Pitched whole yeast starter. |

Aroma: a "pilsner amount" of sulfur and malt sweetness, dank herbs/resin, grapefruit, some white grape.
Flavor: generally grainy, though a pilsner-type malt sweetness is detectable. A good blend of grain flavor overall. A firm bitterness that finishes with dank grapefruit.
The malt/hops balance is pretty much on-point right now, so I don't want to push it by dry-hopping it. I'm just going to leave this as-is. |

Tasting already, though it isn't finished carbonating.
Flavor is a good balance of bitterness/maltiness, though it definitely shows its low starting gravity. The beer is DRY, and it doesn't have a whole lot of flavor. If I think about a hefeweizen, then I can sort of get it. It does have a wheatiness to it.
The aroma is nice, if subtle, with a sweet malty pilsnery smell and a bit of grapefruit/other citrus lightly in the background. The flavor is even more subtle than the aroma, though.
Overall, it does come across as an American wheat beer to me, though it doesn't have as much character as something like Park Ale or Bell's Oberon. I regret not adding the dry hops, since I think that would at least have added some more interest. I think I recall this beer being a lot hoppier last time I tried it, before it was bottled. Just goes to show how much hoppiness fades over the bottling process! |
