7gal @ 150F
split wort, gave half to Dom & Bryce.
Possible explanations for lower extract %:
* lesser mash time (only 75 minutes)
* faster sparge than usual
* shorter lauter than usual
* Fawcett Optic Malt extract potential (claimed to be well-modified, acct http://www.home-brew-online.co.uk/instructions/fawcett-grain-specifications.pdf) |

Didn't actually measure the OG.
Measured gravity ~15 minutes away from end of boil: 1.057
Didn't want to take a sample from a beer I figured would be in limited supply. |

gravity is an estimate: didn't actually collect enough beer to measure with the hydrometer; just slightly short.
still yeast rafts and bubbles on the surface of the beer. some airlock activity. can't tell if this one's done fermenting or not, considering the low gravity it is right now.
SMELL IS INCREDIBLE. Grapefuit, flowers, and that "roasty/hoppy" kind of smell that I've recognized in some taproom IPAs recently. This completely exceeds my expectations so far, considering no dry hops have been added yet.
appearance: totally hazy golden color.
flavor: wow! is this what "juicy" is? Tastes like a mix of orange/grapefruit, a little pine, floral/herbal. Balance of bitterness/maltiness is pretty 50/50. Hopefully this becomes more bitter as it continues fermenting + carbonation. |
