WARNING: Kettle losses > 2% detected which throw off OG calculation for extract/partial mash recipes in batch target 'fermentor' mode. Solution: Reduce kettle losses, misc losses and hops absorption in equipment profile, OR set batch target to 'kettle' and do a full wort boil. See batch target FAQ.

Notes

This simple recipe is a modification of the American Wheat kit from MoreBeer (KIT125). My changes:

  • 6 lbs of DME instead of 5
  • All 6 lbs are Bavarian wheat DME (which is already a mix of wheat and barley malt)
  • 2 oz of Hallertau additions. I used German Tradition from morebeer

This beer is hoppy for a wheat, but still much tamer than PA's or IPAs. Very subtle hop finish that balances the initial blast of flavor from the wheat.

I go ahead and cold crash this beer to clear it up, since cloudiness from US-05 isn't going to add any desirable flavors.
