Added 2lbs 45L Candi Sugar mixed in 2c water.
measured gravity (before addition) - 1.013
estimated gravity (after addition) =
1.013 * 19939g + 1.XXX * 907.186g

estimated current ABV = 6.3%
edit-- another idea for getting OG after syrup:
syrup is 1.032ppg
2 x 1lb syrup in 1gal water = 1.064
1.064 / 5 gallons = 1.0128 ~ 1.013
pre-syrup gravity 1.061 + 1.013 = 1.074

Used 3.67 oz dextrose for priming sugar.
Based on internet research, bottle priming adds ~ 0.3% alcohol, so final ABV ~ 8.31 - 8.6% (lower is probably more accurate)
Taste
------------------
- Warm, alcoholic bite.
- Bizarre spice / celery
- Caramel
I hope this gets a lot better with age.. |

The very last bottle, almost a year old!
Appearance: A ruddy brown, somewhat hazy, even after all this time. Originally had a modest head, but it disappeared quickly.
Aroma: Lots of spice/phenol: clove, black pepper, licorice? Smells really good, though kind of intense. A slight ethenol/nail polish aroma.
Flavor: Astringent! Mouth puckering! Makes my stomach churn. Hot alcohol. Licorice, spice, tastes somewhat as it smells. Sweetness drowned out by how astringent this is. Really hard to drink.
Mouthfeel: medium-bodied. Makes my tongue feel prickly because of the astringency.
Overall: smells nice, but it's a trap! Very astringent and tastes like alcohol. Very boozy, and hard to drink. |
