Pours dark gold, 8-10 SRM, slightly hazy, with a quickly dissipating white head. Islands of fine bubbles remain scattered along the surface and ringing the edges. Powerful aromas of tropical fruit—mangoes, guavas, and peaches greet the nose. Nothing subtle here; the yeast and hops combine to produce an "I can't believe it's not fruit" effect. Surprisingly full-bodied, with a prickly, bright carbonation. Sour, but not bracingly so, thanks to the lower than expected attenuation and powerfully fruity hops. It's like biting into a piece of fruit that's both ripe and unripe—the former for the intense fruity flavors and the latter for the sharp acidity. The finish highlights a crackery wheat malt backbone and a fruity, slightly resinous hop finish. |
