15qt strike
152 F. Large Mashtun so high temp may allow longer stabilized temp.
Vorlaufed twice.
Will do a mashout without draining. Had good efficiency on the cream of three crops.
added 20 qt boiling to bring temperature up to 180
vorlaufed 2 times until clear then drained to kettle
Anticipating Fly sparging with 2.37 gal (10 qt)
Ending Brix: 4
Considering doing no sparge sometime. (add 7 gal boiling and then drain whole thing.)
https://byo.com/stories/item/1375-skip-the-sparge
Having enough water for sparge was difficult. Had to microwave/boil on stove. Would be good to plan more next time or have a second burner. The estimate of 2.4 gallons to spare was way off. More like 3/4 gal. |

OOPS - Mashed out at 178. Apparently not an issue if PH is below 7. PH seemed to be around 5-6. Hopefully safe. Temperature to aim for in future is 168!!!! |

conversion eff. BS. Likely due to sugar addition and improper volume or gravity info. |

Sort of forgot about this one. It sat in primary for 2-3 weeks then I gradually bumped the temperature up for a DR over a week. Hoping this was long enough.... Cold crashed at 35 for a week. Going to rack to keg then lager for as long as I can wait.... up to 4 weeks.
Smell of bananas initially wafted when smelling the fermented wort. There was also a very thin krausen remaining on the top of the beer. Will transfer soon. Alicia commented smells apples/citrusy. |
