note - fucked up and the mash was a bit thin. lots of water on top of the grain bed.
oh well.
also, fucked up again and did not perform mash out by mistake. just went right to sparge. fuck.

just note this starter was fast pitch + RO water + a small amount of wort + wyeast. starter was on the stir plate for all of about six or seven hours - smack pack had 3 hours prior. |

i undersparged this batch unintentionally - should've thought about it more but it's the first brew in 13 months. whatevs.
also, the boiloff rate is high.
another consideration should be that the brew kettle's out hose has a substantial drip leak that i need to address. it lost several gallons overnight with the prep'd water waiting in it. it also always is leaking when in use during brew day.
finally, as noted earlier the mash was thinner than usual, i had too much water in the mash tun. i don't think this is a huge problem, but definitely contributed to my lackluster sparge & consequently final fermenter volume.
all told for a 13 month hiatus there were no massive fuck ups today. i think i found the new key - decide what day I want to brew, then spend two hours prepping the night before.
a final consideration - i never seem to have enough RO water ready. even filling the RO tank i'm short a few gallons. next time...maybe fill the MT to 5 gallons and then the RO tank... |

Secondary'd via the conical dump valve. Very little trub. |
