New brew, this is big and my pot (20L) was strained, so I split 1/4 of it off and did that in another pot, so this was a double-barrelled brew. Everything smells nice and my pots are warming to strike temp. |

Mashing out after a very long time, the two pot shuffle kind of sucked. The volume is a little off, 1.5L less sparge would help with gravity. The second pot had crap conversion. This will still be big, but not as big as I hoped. I used temp correction on this. I will measure tomorrow when the wort is cooled for a better estimate. |

No chill commencing, it is in the fermenter and waiting to cool, so I can yeast it. I will measure the wort in the morning to see what the gravity really was. Long hard brew day, I tasted the grain and gave up on a partygyle... it would have been a very small beer. |

Fermentation began and very quickly took off. I have to subtract the 2 L of hop water from the sparge volume. I diluted this batch. |

It still bubbles away, roughly 3 bloops a minute at the air lock, vs twice that yesterday and so much faster yet the day before. Exponential decay at work, I expect this to be done in 3–4 days. I have already begun edits. Conversion efficiency on the recipe as brewed was only 67% and that was not impressive given the work. The version two drops about a kg of fermentable grain and changes the beets. |

It has a Belgian yeast taste that is far too strong for my liking. |

The final colour of the first run was not as intended, a lovely amber brown, but not red. I also find that this Belgian yeast was a mistake. I am not a Belgian yeast fan, I need an alternative that comes out cleaner. |

Except for the phenolic Belgian yeast taste, this is an OK beer. I have changed the recipe for version 2 to improve some of the shortcomings. It kicks some ass strength wise, you will get a buzz off one of these. |
