Last night roasted two sugar pumpkins. Collectively they weighted 4.5 lbs. Roasted at 375 F for 1 hour with brown sugar spread on top surfaces.
Also, filled the propane tank. It weighs 35.9 lbs when full. Am going to weigh at the end to see roughly how much propane I use in weight per session. |

Protein rest done. Temp dropped from 122 to 119 over 15 min. Temp outside is a bit cool: google says its 62 F out.
Forgot to add 2 ml of lactic acid until the last 4 min of the protein rest. |

Got it up to 154 F in 11 minutes roughly. Upon arrival in the target range it was difficult to get a consistent read on the temperature. It was vacillating between 152 and 159, but mostly 153-156. I took it off the stove to stop absorbing the residual heat and put the lid on.
Also: I’ve been kind of curious what about brewing is the most tiring. Stirring the kettle continually while heating is one of those things. |

Checked mash temp after 20 min. Appears not to have dropped much. Still reading variably… 148, 157, 155, 154… |

Star anise seems really strong. I'm taking it down to 1 star anise. It's 1.8 g. |

Zested 3 large heirloom naval oranges. Got 1.13oz zest. Going with that rather than the 1.5oz originally planned. |

Refractometer is reading 1.063 which is a bit above the target of 1.58 for the gravity of the mash sample. Time to try to get this wort out safely! That was about 15 min before the end of the 60 saccarification rest. Also: I never re-warmed the mash kettle. |

Sparge was a bit of a mess. Got stuck. Restarted with rice hulls stirred in but didn't close valve before disturbing the grain bed. Last couple liters it was just going as fast as possible, trying not to get stuck again. Was tipping it forward and still couldn't get it all out. Gave up at 14.5 liters. 1.5 liters short of the goal.
I'm going to try shortening the boil to 75 min to compensate for smaller pre boil volume. |

Don’t want to forget to note down: I only had 0.4 oz Hallertau Mittel. Had to substitute in 0.1 oz 5.2% aa Mt. Hood hops. I wanted to save a bit of money and make sure I used the hops I already had. It seemed fine especially just for the bittering hops. |

I am fermenting this one in the storage area. The air temperature down there appears to be about 67.5 (which is just about perfect). |

Timed myself to see if I could work on doing this somewhat efficiently. It took 1 hour and 13 minutes this time. |
